RESEARCH INTO ACTION

Understand. Protect. Recover.

Connecting field observations, scientific research, habitat conservation, and public stewardship.

01

Monitor Flamingos Across Florida

We collect and analyze sightings, photographs, band and tag information, and field observations to track flamingo abundance, distribution, movements, and population trends.

02

Advance Research

We study flamingo behavior, habitat use, movements, migration, breeding, genetics, and emerging threats to identify the conditions American flamingos need to survive and recover. Because flamingos move across international boundaries, we collaborate with researchers, wildlife agencies, conservation organizations, and communities throughout the Caribbean to share data and coordinate research. Genetic and genomic studies, combined with banding, satellite tracking, and field observations, help us understand population diversity, connectivity, and long-term recovery needs.

03

Protect Critical Habitat

We use scientific findings to support the conservation and restoration of wetlands, estuaries, mangroves, mudflats, and other habitats essential to flamingos and other species.

04

Improve Conservation Decisions

We share timely, credible information with wildlife agencies, land managers, researchers, and conservation partners so they can respond to emerging threats and prioritize effective action.

05

Build Public Stewardship

We help people recognize flamingos, understand their ecological importance, report sightings responsibly, and observe wildlife without causing disturbance.

06

Champion the State Bird Campaign

We support efforts to designate the American flamingo as Florida’s official state bird. This designation could celebrate a native species closely tied to Florida’s identity while building public awareness and support for flamingo research, wetland conservation, and habitat restoration.
